Romania: Secret Garden International provided three in-service training sessions for a special needs program in Romania. The training was done in CluJ, Craiova and Bucharest. The special needs program in Romania requested training in the area of non-verbal communication. They have many children who are unable to communicate verbally, therefore, training consisted of the use of various non-verbal communication systems used in the United States. The sessions also included some basic speech/language strategies, Individual Education Plan (IEP) preparations and advocacy skills. Even though Romania has only begun to address the needs of the disabled, the training provided some basics to start the process toward independent living for people with disabilities.
